South Carolina Treasure and Artifact Association MinutesMay 26, 2010

The SCTAA met on May 24, 2010, with 26 in attendance including visitors - David Shirah and David Divert from Spartanburg.The program was a talk by Randy about Florida's Treasure Coast.When a projection screen can be obtained, he has an interesting video to show about the area.

Coming dates of interest:July 26 Meeting - Guest Speaker Kent Hinckle from the Treasure Coast (Invited by former member Dave Packard)

August 14-21 - Group hunting at Myrtle Beach

October 23 (or 30th as 2nd choice) - Annual Hunt at Lake Lure

April treasury ended with $659.81.We collected Raffle - $77, Donation Can - $11.On Tuesday I sent in seven additional FMDAC 2010 Memberships totaling $35 (one new member was asking for his FMDAC ID card).That makes the amended closing balance $712.81.

Roy Evans won the gold 2 peso coin raffle.Our next meeting will be June 28, 2010.

Congratulations to Donnie Bagwell who has a new granddaughter, Georgia Claire.

The SCTAA met on April 26, 2010, with 32 in attendance.One new member joined: Doug Byrd (brought in by Greg Modzel) .The motivational program, The Perks of Metal Detecting, was presented by Robert Weaver.

Doug Harrison, Harold Bell, Chris Phillips and Randy Reece manned a booth at the Easley Spring Fling on April 10 to promote our hobby.They displayed finds made in the upstate area and talked to a large number of folks and handed out almost 30 copies of our info. letter.

Upcoming dates:Myrtle Beach Trip - August 14-21;Lake Lure Hunt - October 23 or 30 (2nd choice).

We asked everyone to pray for Wayne Beddingfield, who is battling cancer on his spine.Wayne was present Monday night and feeling okay so far.

March treasury ended with $511.81.We collected Raffle - $110, Donation Can - $13,2010 Memberships - $25.Closing balance is $659.81.

Tony Pannell won the silver dollar coin raffle.Our next meeting will be May 24, 2010.

The SCTAA met on March 22, 2010, with 25 in attendance.One new member joined:Greg Modzel.The program was a video presentation on metal detecting beaches.

With the help of Doug Harrison, we will man a booth at the Easley Spring Fling on April 10 to promote our hobby.We will display finds made in the upstate area and hand out our info. letter to those who are interested.

The SCTAA met on February 22, 2010, with 29 in attendance including two visitors - Greg Modzel and Rick Smigel.One new member joined: Jimmy Fleming.The program was presented by Robert Weaver on the topic of Discouragement/Encouragement with some interesting highlights of his early days of metal detecting.

January treasury ended with $1,448.46.We collected Raffle - $87, Donation Can - $10.50,2010 Memberships - $25 and added $ .30 adjustment for a math error.We paid out the following:$1,217.95 for coins purchased at Coin Depot as prizes for this year.Closing balance is $353.31.

Tom Fiscus won the silver dollar coin raffle.c Our next meeting will be March 22, 2010.

South Carolina Treasure and Artifact Association MinutesJanuary 25, 2010

The SCTAA met on January 25, 2010, with 28 in attendance including one visitor - John Lowe. Two new members joined:Travis Aiken (brought in by Jake Phillips) and Thomas Fiscus (brought in by Harold Bell).Also Joe Cantrell rejoined at the Awards Banquet.Current membership total is 31.The program was presented by Randy Reece who reviewed the yearly contests and the treasury and use of money that comes in.The Annual Awards Banquet was a great success with 56 people attending.The Best Find of the Year Award winners were:1st - Roy Evans,2nd - Bill Guthke.

November treasury ended with $1,619.46.We collected Raffle - $80, Donation Can - $11, 2010 Memberships - $75.We collected $50 cash for raffle tickets we sold on behalf of Carolina Coin and Relic Assoc/Art DiFilippo. The Treasury ended with $1,835.46.HOWEVER - We paid out the following:$140 to FMDAC ($5 for each member who had paid up); $146.70 to The Awards Center for plaques for our Awards Banquet; $50 to Uncle Sam's Antiques for silver dimes to give everyone at the Banquet; $50 check to Carolina Coin and Relic Assoc. for their raffle tickets.The AMENDED Treasury ends with$1,448.46.(One outstanding bill for coins charged to personal credit card pending). NOTE:Sorry I have to amend treasury so often.It is very hectic trying to do so much during the meetings.

South Carolina Treasure and Artifact Association Minutes November 23, 2009

The SCTAA met on November 23, 2009 with 30 in attendance. The program was presented by Robert Weaver who explained cleaning methods and displayed some of the equipment he uses to clean coins and relics. Then Clem McNure shared interesting information about his recent trip to metal detect civil war sites with the Digging in Virginia group. We appreciated the useful information each man shared.

We have set the date for our Annual Awards Banquet for January 11, 2010 at 7 p.m. at Ryan's Steak House in Greer.

October treasury ended with $1,473.21. We spent $204 to finish purchasing coins for next year's contests. We collected Raffle - $89, Donation Can - $11.25, 2010 Memberships - $250. The treasury ends with $1,619.46. Ryleigh Mahaffee won the silver dollar raffle. Our next meeting will be January 25, 2010.

The SCTAA met on October 26, 2009 with 30 in attendance including visitors:Travis Aiken and Terry Krueger who joined for 2010.

The program was nomination of officers for 2010.Two positions were vacant:Doug Harrison had to give up the vice-president slot due to out-of-town work and Dan Cagle passed away leaving a board member slot open.Nominations were made and voted on quickly with these results:Randy Reece - President, Maggie Moffat - Vice President, Rebecca Reece - Secretary/Treasurer, Robert Weaver and Harold Bell - Board Members at large.

Our annual big event, the Lake Lure Hunt was Saturday, October 24.We had 23 members who hunted and 35 people for the hot dog cookout. Everyone seemed to have a great time.Randy said "Thank you to all who gave donations of coins and prizes, who brought the good food and drinks, and who helped with set- up and close-up for the event."We especially appreciate that Tyrone Phillips can arrange for this great site for our club every year and devote time and energy to planting coins on the Friday before the hunt.

September treasury ended with $2,214.21.We spent $1,465 for the hunt and dimes for next year's contests.We took in $350 for fees, dues and raffles and $55 on the hula hoop field. We collected Raffle - $134, Donation Can - $10, 2010 Memberships - $175.The ammended treasury ends with $1,473.21. Darrell Mullinax won the gold 2 peso raffle.Ralph Childers won the raffle for the gold 2 peso and silver half-dollar which were unclaimed at the hunt.Our next meeting will be November 23.

The SCTAA met on September 28, 2009 with 32 in attendance including visitors:"Bubba" Hiram Stutts and Joe Reid; and two new members:Terry Barcelona and Joe Cantrell.

The program was a Fun Hunt/EASTER-EGG STYLE HUNT planned by board member Robert Weaver.Everyone enjoyed it even though it was difficult to see since it was growing dark.




Our annual big event, the Lake Lure Hunt will be Saturday, October 24, rain or shine.We have 18 members who've paid the $30 hunt fee so far and another 5 plan to pay on hunt day.We have 36 people expected for the hot dog cookout.We began taking payment for 2010 dues and have six so far.

We have set the date for our Annual Awards Banquet for January 11, 2010 at 7 p.m. at Ryan's Steak House in Greer.A motion was made and passed to change the yearly awards due to the high price of gold.1st place = 1/10 oz. gold coin, 2nd and 3rd place = gold 2 peso coin, 4th and 5th unchanged.

August treasury ended with $1,442.21.Then I subtracted $50 memorial for Mrs. Ruby Mullinax leaving $1,392.21We collected Raffle - $105, Donation Can - $12, Hunt Fees - $480, 2009 Memberships - $75, 2010 Memberships - $150.The ammended treasury ended with$2,214.21.This is a discrepancy of $20 due to a math error.(My apologies for the mistake!)Ralph Childers won the raffle for the silver dollar.Our next meeting will be October 26.

South Carolina Treasure and Artifact Association Minutes August 26,2009

The SCTAA met on August 24, 2009 with 37 in attendance.This included 4 visitors.

Art DiFilippo, Southeast Chapter President of FMDAC spoke briefly about the association, the benefits of membership and possibly organizing a hunt for the three chapters in South Carolina.

The program was a swap meet organized by Robert Weaver.

SEPTEMBER MEETING - EASTER-EGG STYLE HUNT - Robert gave out plastic eggs for participants to collect their coins in, coins will be buried just prior to the meeting for a fun hunt in the area behind the Rec. Center.To participate, bring fifty cents in real silver (not clad).This can be a half dollar, two quarters, five dimes, 10 buffalo nickels or a combination of these.Twenty-one hunters have signed up.Coins may be turned in at September meeting for anyone who could not get them in sooner (per Robert, hunt organizer).

FALL LAKE LURE HUNT DATE - OCTOBER 24! Plan to sign up, pay hunt fee of $30, and sign up for a picnic item next meeting!

Randy reported that everyone who attended the trip to Myrtle Beach had a great time.Guest speaker Andy Sabisch gave a great talk filled with useful information and gave out door prizes.Members made some good finds during the week.

July treasury ended with $1,277.09.We sent flowers for Dan Cagle's funeral for $53.38.We collected:Raffle - $150 and Donation Can - $8.50 and Fall Hunt Fees $60 with an ending Treasury of $1,442.21 (adjusted).Ralph Childers won the raffle for the gold coin.Jake Phillips won a magnifying loop donated by Art DiFileppo, who also gave 3 silver dimes each to our three youth after performing a neat magic trick.Our next meeting will be September 28.
