South Carolina Treasure and Artifact Association-FebruaryMinutesMarch 2,2012

The SCTAA met on February 27, 2012 with 35 in attendance with three visitors:Haward Black, Lannes Grubbs, and Ron Prince.We gained a new member:Norman Lewis.

Robert Weaver discussed plans for the spring hunt on the Moore, SC farm.The hunt will be Saturday, April 14, and the hunt fee will be $30. There will be a free hunt for youth age 15 and under.Everything is being set up to be as fair as possible to everyone.There is lots of interest among the members and visitors.

Dates for the spring trip to Myrtle Beach are March 31 to April 7.

A number of donations for awards and hunts were brought in which will help the club a lot.

January treasury ended with a balance of $366.24.We collected: Money Donations for points - $83.00; donation can - $19.00.We took in $75.00 for 2012 memberships (29 paid members so far).We collected $120 for the spring hunt which was given to Robert.The amended closing balance is $573.24.The next meeting will be March 26.

South Carolina Treasure and Artifact Association -January MinutesJanuary 25,2012

The SCTAA met on January 23, 2012 with 25 in attendance with three visitors: Norman Lewis, Dan Howell and Ron Prince.

Randy reviewed sign-in procedures and discussed the desire to see donations come in for the monthly prizes so we can build up the treasury for the fall Lake Lure Hunt.As an incentive, Randy has donated all the silver he has left - enough for part of Jan. and Feb. prizes plus some extra dimes.To purchase coins for Mar. through Nov. would cost $481.80 with Washington Quarters at $6.00, Mercury Dimes at $2.55 and Buffalo Nickels at $ .75.Darrell promised to bring in a month's worth of coins.Maggie immediately donated the dime and two nickels she'd just won.

Robert is continuing to plan for a spring hunt.Dates for the spring trip to Myrtle Beach are March 31 to April 7.Bill Guthke reported that the jewelry store next to Panera Bread Company inside Haywood Mall is a good place to sell scrap gold.

November treasury ended with amended balance of $953.87.We collected: Money Donations for points - $63.00; donation can - $24.07.We took in $125.00 for 2012 memberships (26 paid members so far).We paid out:FMDAC fees for 2012 memberships - $115.00, plaques from the Awards Center - $156.70, purchased a gold 2 peso from Carter Mahaffee for what he put into the last raffle we had - $20.00, Purchased awards coins and ten silver quarters to start the new year's prizes off - $508.00The closing balance is $366.24.The next meeting will be February 27.

WELCOME - Members and their families and guests!

The winners of the treasure hunter of the year award are members who have supported the club in a variety of ways.Members earn points for attendance, making donations to the club hunt, returning a lost object you have found to the owner, conducting a program, bringing in a new member or making money donations.You earn one point for each dollar up to $20 per month, plus you enable the club to put on a good hunt each fall at Lake Lure.This year's winners are:

The SCTAA met on November 28, 2011 with 25 in attendance with one visitor, Dwight Hamby.

All current officers were re-nominated in October and re-elected:Pres. - Randy Reece; Sec/Tres. - Rebecca Reece; Vice-Pres. - Maggie Moffat; Board Members - Robert Weaver and Carter Mahaffee.

Randy discussed future trip plans, which will be early spring at Myrtle Beach.Eight members have signed up as interested.Robert Weaver presented the program.He advised members to get details before committing to find a lost item, which he learned the hard way as he shared a personal incident.He also shared plans for a spring hunt at the Moore farm with a goal of planting 6,000 targets (memorial cents/ some 100 to 400 used as tokens), a larger hunt field, prizes in envelopes to be drawn by token holders, hunt fee to be $20 up to $35 as members choose, newcomers welcome, donations of pennies requested.

October treasury ended with amended balance of $602.62.We collected: Money Donations for points - $38.00; donation can - $13.25.We took in $300 for 2012 memberships (20 paid members so far).The closing balance was $953.87.The next meeting will be January 23.The Awards Banquet will be at Ryan's in Greer on January 9 at 7 p.m.

South Carolina Treasure and Artifact Association -October MinutesOctober 29,2011

The SCTAA met on October 24, 2011 with 17 in attendance.Our annual Hunt at Lake Lure was on Saturday October 22.We had a successful hunt with 24 hunters and 35 members present for the hot dog cookout.The weather was sunny and pleasant.

The program by Randy was about possible plans for a winter hunt on Florida's Treasure Coast (Vero Beach area) or the alternative of Myrtle Beach, hopefully in Jan. or Feb.

Nominations were made for officers and will be open at next meeting with the vote next meeting.

All current officers were re-nominated:Pres. - Randy Reece; Sec/Tres. - Rebecca Reece;

Vice-Pres. - Maggie Moffat; Board Members - Robert Weaver and Carter Mahaffee.

September treasury ended with $1,813.12.We collected: Money Donations for points - $45.00; donation can - $15.We took in $30 in hunt fees for the Fall Lake Lure Hunt; $100 for 2012 memberships; and $64 for the raffle of two silver dollars (donated by Randy Reece) at the Lake Lure Hunt.We paid out $25 as a donation to the FMDAC Convention at Myrtle Beach.We paid out $1,439.50 for coins and money prizes at the Fall Lake Lure Hunt.The amended closing balance was $602.62.The next meeting will be November 28.

OOPS!-It was just pointed out to Randy that the Myrtle Beach trip includes club night.Since people have taken vacation time to go, it seems the best solution is to have the Aug. meeting on the 5th Monday - August 29.Give me your feedback, please.

Randy commented on the new, tougher trespass law and cautioned all members to get permission and stay inside permitted boundaries to show respect and honor our hobby.The program by Robert Weaver was a warning to beware of fraud on the internet or at yard sales, etc.Examples:fake recreation tokens or items quickly aged and called antiques.Our next meeting will beJuly 25, 2011.

The program by Robert Weaver was an encouragement to slow your swing down, cover all your holes, respect property owners and ask permission and most importantly, persevere.An incentive for the fall hunt will be cleaned pennies in plastic eggs with a few Indian heads in some of the egg caches.Our next meeting will be June 27, 2011.

April treasury ended with $626.62.We paid out $50.00 to FMDAC national organization for 10 more memberships.We collected: Money Donations - $75.00; Membership Dues (2011) - $25.00.The closing balance is $676.62.

The SCTAA met on August 29, 2011 with 25 in attendance.

October 22 - Annual Lake Lure Hunt (Sign in starting at 9 a.m.)

Entry forms for the FMDAC Convention at Myrtle Beach were available for those who want to participate in the hunts or the banquet.Four good speakers will be speaking during the weekend.The SCTAA Board agreed to support the convention by donating a $25 piece of silver for them to raffle off.

We collected hunt fees of $30 for the Lake Lure Hunt from fourteen members.We expect several more by next month.

The program by Robert Weaver was a review of the Treasure Hunter's Code of Ethics.Robert also donated a metal basket sifter.Jimmy Cochran's wife, Teresa, won it and donated it back to the fall hunt.Jimmy also donated 4 civil war commemorative belt buckles for the fall hunt.Our next meeting will be September 26, 2011.

July treasury ended with $807.62.We collected: Money Donations for points - $73.00; donation can - $12.50.We took in $420 in hunt fees for the Fall Lake Lure Hunt.The closing balance was $1313.12.
