Lake Lure Hunt will be Saturday, October 24

The SCTAA met on September 28, 2009 with 32 in attendance including visitors:"Bubba" Hiram Stutts and Joe Reid; and two new members:Terry Barcelona and Joe Cantrell.
The program was a Fun Hunt/EASTER-EGG STYLE HUNT planned by board member Robert Weaver.Everyone enjoyed it even though it was difficult to see since it was growing dark.
Our annual big event, the Lake Lure Hunt will be Saturday, October 24, rain or shine.We have 18 members who've paid the $30 hunt fee so far and another 5 plan to pay on hunt day.We have 36 people expected for the hot dog cookout.We began taking payment for 2010 dues and have six so far.
We have set the date for our Annual Awards Banquet for January 11, 2010 at 7 p.m. at Ryan's Steak House in Greer.A motion was made and passed to change the yearly awards due to the high price of gold.1st place = 1/10 oz. gold coin, 2nd and 3rd place = gold 2 peso coin, 4th and 5th unchanged.
August treasury ended with $1,442.21.Then I subtracted $50 memorial for Mrs. Ruby Mullinax leaving $1,392.21We collected Raffle - $105, Donation Can - $12, Hunt Fees - $480, 2009 Memberships - $75, 2010 Memberships - $150.The ammended treasury ended with$2,214.21.This is a discrepancy of $20 due to a math error.(My apologies for the mistake!)Ralph Childers won the raffle for the silver dollar.Our next meeting will be October 26.

South Carolina Treasure and Artifact Association Minutes August 26,2009
The SCTAA met on August 24, 2009 with 37 in attendance.This included 4 visitors.
Art DiFilippo, Southeast Chapter President of FMDAC spoke briefly about the association, the benefits of membership and possibly organizing a hunt for the three chapters in South Carolina.
The program was a swap meet organized by Robert Weaver.
SEPTEMBER MEETING - EASTER-EGG STYLE HUNT - Robert gave out plastic eggs for participants to collect their coins in, coins will be buried just prior to the meeting for a fun hunt in the area behind the Rec. Center.To participate, bring fifty cents in real silver (not clad).This can be a half dollar, two quarters, five dimes, 10 buffalo nickels or a combination of these.Twenty-one hunters have signed up.Coins may be turned in at September meeting for anyone who could not get them in sooner (per Robert, hunt organizer).
FALL LAKE LURE HUNT DATE - OCTOBER 24! Plan to sign up, pay hunt fee of $30, and sign up for a picnic item next meeting!
Randy reported that everyone who attended the trip to Myrtle Beach had a great time.Guest speaker Andy Sabisch gave a great talk filled with useful information and gave out door prizes.Members made some good finds during the week.
July treasury ended with $1,277.09.We sent flowers for Dan Cagle's funeral for $53.38.We collected:Raffle - $150 and Donation Can - $8.50 and Fall Hunt Fees $60 with an ending Treasury of $1,442.21 (adjusted).Ralph Childers won the raffle for the gold coin.Jake Phillips won a magnifying loop donated by Art DiFileppo, who also gave 3 silver dimes each to our three youth after performing a neat magic trick.Our next meeting will be September 28.

The SCTAA met on July 27, 2009 with 31 in attendance.Announcements:Robert Weaver's dad died on July 14 after a long illness.We expressed our sympathy to Robert. Dan Cagle has been diagnosed with lung cancer which has also spread to his bones.He is in Oteen Veteran's Hospital ICU in very serious condition.We had a motion which quickly passed to send Dan the evening's raffle collection and donations.We signed a card and sent him a check for $160.

Jonathan Brooke brought in an ingenious sifter he made from the plastic tub from an old dishwasher and some chicken wire.It is a light-weight piece of equipment he will use at trash dumps and other dig sites.He got a round of applause for his creativity and describing its use.

Activities for the future

The SCTAA met on June 22, 2009 with 32 in attendance.Robert Weaver 's program was a discussion of activities for the future which a majority of members approved.
SWAP MEET - a future meeting will be a time for members to bring in items relating to detecting, including coins, to swap with other members.
EASTER-EGG STYLE HUNT - to be at the September meeting, members would bring in coins (number and type to be determined) the month prior to this hunt.The coins contributed will be buried in the area behind the Rec. Center for a fun hunt.
SPRING HUNT '10 - He discussed his intention to put on another spring hunt next year on the Hwy. 290 property, making sure the hunt fields are bigger next year.This would include a hula hoop hunt field and a numbered plot hunt field (NEW) with tokens designating the plot the finder would get to hunt exclusively.We really appreciate the time and work Robert is dedicating to enhancing the club!

Myrtle Beach trip planned for August

The SCTAA met on May 25, 2009 with 24 in attendance.Robert Weaver 's program was a discussion of the usefulness of Western and Eastern Treasures Magazine articles in becoming a better metal detectorist.He also recommended that someone volunteer to send in new items about our members finds to the magazine.He discussed his intention to put on another spring hunt next year on the Hwy. 290 property, making sure the hunt fields are bigger next year.

The SCTAA met on March 23, 2009 with 36 in attendance including 2 visitors.Robert Weaver presented an excellent and informative program on digging tools and techniques for using them.
Dan Cagle won the raffle for a silver dollar.NOTE:We have around 7 more ball caps for sale at $11.They are navy blue with the SCTAA logo.The treasury ended with $783.24.
*Upcoming Events*2009 Treasure Expo & Trade Show at Myrtle Beach, SC April 4 & 5 at Springmaid Resort (entry fee $10 per day) and FMDAC Silver Bash (2 Hunts) Entry fee $50 per hunt:registration underway.Hotel rates are as follows:Springmaid Resort costs $110 and up per night;The Landmark Resort cost for both nights including taxes and fees starts at $94.17 and up; The Gazebo Inn costs around $50 per night and up.This weekend will be the start of spring break for many schools.I hope our club will have a good turnout for this event.Hopefully, we can get together for hunting and a meal or two as a group.During the Expo we will be manning display tables representing our club and raffling off gold 2 peso coins which have been donated to the club (one coin each day) to raise funds for the club.
At Easley's Spring Fling on April 25, we will also man a booth to promote the club.This booth has been donated to us by Doug Harrison and Vikalin's Coffeehouse.Anyone who can is encouraged to come out and join us for part of the day.

SCTAA Has New Hats

The SCTAA met on February 23, 2009 with 33 in attendance including 3 visitors.Two families joined: Carter Mahaffee with daughter Ryleigh and Chris Phillips with son Jake .The club program was an overview of the operation of and differences in a number of detector brands:Whites, Tesoro, Fisher, Bounty Hunter and Minelab.
In answer to a question from last month's program about the approximate number of points it takes to win our yearly contests: 2008 Treasure Finder winners had 156, 142, 113, 110 and 97 points.The 2008 Treasure Hunter winners had 225, 200, 190, 155 and 145 points.
Clem McNure won the raffle for a gold 2-peso and Roy Evans won a cap with the SCTAA logo.NOTE: We have around 10 more ball caps for sale at $11.They are black with the SCTAA logo.The treasury ended with $658.24.

South Carolina Treasure and Artifact Association Minutes January 29, 2009
The SCTAA met on January 26, 2009 with 35 in attendance.Two new members joined:Thomas and Gaynelle Wilson and Dave Mapstone.The club program was a review of the monthly and yearly contests and how to earn points.The group detecting outing that was held on December 20 at the University Ridge area in Greenville was enjoyed by about 20 hunters who found a few good items in spite of the trash out there.
Our Annual Awards Banquet was on January 12, 2009 at Ryan's Steak House in Greer.We had a good attendance of fifty.Everyone enjoyed themselves.The Best Find of the Year contest winner was Darrell Mullinax who entered his slave tag. Harold Bell took second place with a beautiful gold and emerald class ring.
Announcement:Randy Reece's brother died in December and a motion was made and passed to give him the proceeds from our raffle which totaled $143.We are touched and grateful for your kindness.Clem McNure won the raffle for a silver dollar.The treasury ended with $887.49 (amended after the meeting adjourned).
*We learned that past member, John Haley's wife died recently, so we signed and sent a sympathy card to him.
Randy passed out the 2009 FMDAC membership cards.

Volunteer Found

The SCTAA met on November 24, 2008 with 29 in attendance.The club program centered on, wintertime projects like making a sand scoop or bucket sifter out of household items.A group detecting outing was scheduled for Saturday, December 20 at 10 a.m. at the University Ridge area in Greenville, where houses are being torn down.Some good artifacts have already been dug out there.
Our Annual Awards Banquet will be January 12, 2009 at 7 p.m. at Ryan's Steak House in Greer.
Everyone will buy their own meal and we will eat together in the private meeting room.Members were reminded to bring their best find to enter in the Best Find of the Year contest.The prize will be a gold coin.
Announcement:Tyrone Phillips' mother died this morning after a brief hospitalization for a broken hip.A motion was made and passed to send him the proceeds from our raffle which totaled $129.
Don Brewer won the raffle for a silver dollar.The treasury ended with $2,276.58.
Club dues for 2009 are being taken now and until Dec. 10, the cut-off date set so we can send dues in and receives membership cards as requested by the national FMDAC officers.
A motion was made and passed to combine the Secretary and Treasurer positions and have the club Secretary/Treasurer and the Vice-President be the signers of all checks.Our thanks go to Brenda Cagle who has faithfully served as Treasurer for many years.
All officers were re-elected for the coming year except for Treasurer because Brenda Cagle declined to serve for another year.The officers for 2009 are:

SCTAA October Minutes October 30, 2008
Our October meeting had 32 in attendance.The club program centered around seeking a volunteer to take the Treasurer's position being vacated by Brenda Cagle after many years of faithful service.
As yet, no one has stepped forward.
A motion was made to start our meetings at 7:15 p.m. so we can finish up before 9 p.m. each month.The motion was passed by a large majority of members present.
Club dues for 2009 are being taken now and until Dec. 10, the cut-off date set so we can send dues in and receive membership cards as requested by the national FMDAC officers.
Tyrone Phillips won the raffle for a gold 2-peso.Maggie Moffat won the raffle for a silver half dollar left over from our annual Lake Lure Hunt. The treasury ended with $2,070.58
