May 2008
Our May meeting was a little low on attendance due to Memorial Day. We had 16 in attendance. Doug Harrison took charge of the meeting while Randy & Rebecca were away to Tybee Island for a week of beach hunting.
We briefly discussed Robert & Allen's hunt that was held at the apple farm. We would like to thank Robert & Allen for all their hard work that went into the hunt.
Check out this unplanted 1 reale that Dan Cagle dug at the hunt.
We also talked about the upcoming hunts in Roanoke Valley, Virginia in June and Warrior Basin, Alabama in October.
Doug presented a program on using caution when out hunting. Everyone contributed to the discussion about the hazards like heat stroke, bees, poison oak and ticks. We just need to be aware and prepared.
We had a salute to our veterans since we have veterans spanning more than 50 years of service, from WWII to Vietnam.
Roy told us that Donnie Bagwell had been contacted by a reporter from the Associated Press and did a phone interview about metal detecting and beach hunting and told her about Roy Evans and all his finds. Roy had spent the morning with a photographer who photographed his finds from Tybee Island. Nice to have celebrities among us.
Chris Phillips gave an update on the possibilities of our group getting to metal detect the area of "Old Pickens" SC. Still waiting to get the official word.
Voting on finds. After lots of ties and a little confusion; we got it done. Now might be the time to say how much we appreciate Randy and Rebecca for what they do each month.

I'm about to head off to Altanta on Thursday for a couple of days. My wife is attending a seminar and I'm free to roam (read practice my metal detecting). If anyone knows the Atlanta area and wouldn't mind sharing some thoughts on interesting places to hunt, I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
